Vittorio,

I remember you also posted about http://www.m3dfea.com/post-processing.html. Do you have any experience with FEX or M3D FEA? I think I will start a thread and a main item on mystran.com that points to useful programs like this (of course there is also pyNASTRAN).

Brian,
up to now i just tried both programs reading some models from the examples (e.g. HEXA08-02-02-020-CANT-AR1-RED-2x2x2).
They works and can be useful to check the models.
For model inspection also VisIT and paraview have some capabilities in reading NASTRAN input.
Maybe also developing VTK output or OP2/F06/punch to VTK translator could be an interesting solution.
Paraview is a great post processor and a VTK output is relatively easy to understand.

Thanks for the info. I created a new thread and will try to explain these various programs (features, state of development, documentation level, usability, etc.).

Another option is use the CalculiX post processor (CalculiX GraphiX). I like this program because it is very light and has some interesting features. See this video (about the half way mark) for how I was able to integrate it with Excel
https://www.structuralfea.com/Plate_Mesh/videos.html

We just need to create an FRD output, which is probably straightforward. I think it supports F06, but that does not seem to be a good approach (there seem to be too many challenges parsing the file and its not consistent between Nastran versions).

Brian,
Calculix is a very interesting program and the frd format is very easy to read/write.
It's main limitation is that it supports only nodal values and not element response.
By the way on the net there are a couple of format converters from frd to vtk, so, if simpler, the frd format is an option.
